Cambodia’s Agricultural Market – Strong Growth with Expanding Potential

I. Overview of Cambodia’s Agricultural Market

Cambodia’s agricultural market plays a vital role in the national economic structure and is regarded as one of the key drivers of economic growth. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia (MAFF), agriculture not only ensures domestic food security but also serves as a strategic export sector, contributing to increased rural incomes and promoting sustainable economic development.

II. Growth in Agricultural Production and Exports in Cambodia

In the first 10 months of 2025, Cambodia exported more than 11.89 million tonnes of agricultural products, with a total value exceeding USD 4.18 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 28.54% (according to Nhan Dan Newspaper). Key export products include paddy rice, milled rice, cassava, cassava starch, cashew nuts, bananas, mangoes, and maize, highlighting the diversity and strong potential of Cambodia’s agricultural sector.

Notably, exports of milled rice reached 801,643 tonnes, up 39% compared to the same period of the previous year, generating over USD 526 million in revenue. This growth further reinforces Cambodia’s increasingly solid position in the global rice market (according to Nhan Dan Newspaper).

III. Policies Promoting Agricultural and Rural Development

To sustain growth momentum, the Cambodian government has implemented the Rural Development Strategy for the 2025–2035 period, focusing on modernizing agricultural production, improving infrastructure, enhancing farmers’ skills, and expanding market access. Programs supporting small-scale production and value chain linkages have enabled tens of thousands of farming households to adopt new technologies and secure stable agricultural product offtake contracts.

IV. Trends in Agricultural Mechanization in Cambodia

Alongside rising agricultural output, agricultural mechanization in Cambodia is accelerating in order to reduce reliance on manual labor and minimize post-harvest losses. The adoption of agricultural machinery has contributed to higher productivity, optimized production costs, and improved product quality, particularly in the rice sector and key industrial crops.

According to a report by Mordor Intelligence, Cambodia’s agricultural machinery market is forecast to reach a value of approximately USD 151 million in 2026 and expand to over USD 205 million by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 6.39%. Tractors account for more than 39% of the market share, while combine harvesters represent the fastest-growing segment, with a CAGR of over 9%, reflecting the increasing demand for mechanization in agricultural production.

V. Opportunities for Businesses and Investors

The strong development of Cambodia’s agricultural market presents numerous opportunities for businesses operating in agricultural machinery, agricultural inputs, logistics, and post-harvest processing. The expansion of international brands such as Kubota, Yanmar, Mahindra, and Deere & Company in Cambodia highlights the market’s growing attractiveness. For companies in Southeast Asia—particularly those from Vietnam—Cambodia is considered a promising market due to its close geographical proximity, rising demand, and long-term growth potential.

VI. Outlook for Cambodia’s Agricultural Market

With a clear orientation toward modern, sustainable agricultural development and deeper integration into global value chains, Cambodia’s agricultural market is expected to maintain its growth momentum in the coming years. The combination of expanding agricultural exports and accelerating mechanization will form a critical foundation for enhancing the country’s competitiveness and attracting international investment.

In this context, ALA Cambodia 2026 – Series of  International Exhibition for  Agriculture, Livestock, and Aquaculture Industry in Cambodia – will take place from 26 to 28 August 2026 at the Diamond Island Exhibition and Convention Centre (DIECC) in Phnom Penh. The event will provide a strategic platform for businesses and agricultural machinery suppliers to access the Cambodian market, showcase new technologies, and connect with regional strategic partners. Building on the success of previous editions, ALA Cambodia 2026 aims to promote trade, technology exchange, and the sustainable development of Cambodia’s agricultural sector as it continues to move toward greater mechanization and modernization.
