Processing is a breakthrough factor for sustainable agricultural export

At the seminar "Finding solutions to Promote export of agricultural and aquatic products of Vietnam" organized by the Customs Newspaper on June 26, The speakers have the same opinion is that processing is the key to enhancing the value and lowering prices for Vietnamese agricultural products when going to the international market.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan shared the role of processing in raising the value and lowering the cost of agricultural products

Explaining the great interest of the Government and the whole society for agricultural product processing, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Director of Agro-product Processing and Market Development Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said: many specific fruits of Vietnam have difficulty in exporting fresh due to very harsh technical barriers. Particularly, exports to remote markets are limited because if traveling by air, the cost is too expensive, at about US $ 3.2 / kg, while the ship route has a barrier of transport time.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan said that agricultural product processing activities are receiving great attention from the Government, businesses as well as the whole society. Most recently, the Prime Minister issued Directive 25 / CT-TTg on tasks and solutions to develop agro-forestry-fishery processing industry and to mechanize agricultural production.

"The promotion of processing has helped Vietnamese agricultural products to overcome technical barriers and at the same time improve the value," said Toan.

Specifically, passion fruit sold in Gia Lai is only 5,000 - 6,000 VND / kg, but through supermarkets in Canada, the price is 7-8 times higher. Processing also helps to take advantage of "type 2" goods to produce other products and ship them by ship.

Mr. Toan added that about VND 32,000 billion has been invested in processing by private enterprises, showing the huge potential of this field. However, there are still many difficulties. In order to create a breakthrough for processing, it is necessary to have credit policies; logistics infrastructure, cold storage, storage and planning of raw material areas associated with processing in localities.

Regarding the issue of building material areas, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that it is necessary to have policies to encourage businesses to join cooperatives to form concentrated planting areas. Large geographical indications, easy to apply mechanization, cultivation according to comprehensive VietGap, GlobalGap standards. Since then, the products will reach standards and high quality. The establishment of cooperatives also helps facilitate access to bank capital to invest in machinery and technology ...

Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy, Deputy Director of Chanh Thu Company shared at the seminar

It is also important to form chains of links between producers and businesses, the State and scientists. "Vietnamese fruits do not lack the consumption market, but because they have not built many supply chains to ensure the quantity and quality of food hygiene and safety," - Mr. Nguyen said.

As a fruit export enterprise that has achieved many successes in fastidious markets, Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy, Deputy Director of Chanh Thu Fruit Exporting Company said: “Not only exporting to the US and Australia to clean goods. The clean production is to protect yourself, help build brand and reputation for businesses”.

Also related to the quality of agricultural products, Ms. Vu Kim Hanh, Director of the Center for Business Research and Enterprise Support said that, to overcome the "prejudice" about the residue of the world market on agriculture For Vietnamese products, the application of international standards is required. However, the rigorous criteria of Global Gap make it difficult to apply this standard to manufacturing in Vietnam.

In the face of such difficulties, Hanh said, a global standard organization based in Germany, possesses a universal standard that creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese agricultural products to enter the world market. Nam in developing a stepping standard with the cost and time of certification is only 1/3 of Global Gap. That is the LocalGap standard being implemented by the Vietnam High Quality Goods Business Association in Vietnam.

"This very appropriate standard hopes to open up new perspectives for Vietnamese agricultural products, with VietGap only being able to access LocalGap to go to the world market quickly and stably" - Ms. Hanh shared.
